A September Weekend

This past weekend the little red dogs and I went to the Honey Creek Classic (ASCA) in Eastern Indiana. It was a great weekend full of seriously lovely people and lovely stock in a lovely place but I was pretty stressed out and didn’t enjoy myself much. Silly me. I just didn’t feel great and […]

June Clinic & May Cows

I went to another clinic with Kent Herbel this weekend. After the two trials we have been to (HWASC & SEMASA) I saw a clear problem with each dog that I wasn't effectively dealing with. I even had a hard time articulating it for Kent, but upon demonstration it they were pretty clear. I […]

Sunday Double Feature

Sunday was an amazingly adventurous day for us, these days. It featured Mesa’s & my first herding trial in 3 years, and Tess’s first ever. That was the main plot, but there were some fun side stories too.

I originally entered on Saturday only. Then I needed to move it to Sunday so I could […]

Heat & Tess JHDs

Getting behind with the blog again. It’s has fallen by the wayside while I concentrate on exercising & training the dogs in this heat, kids, earning money so I can keep herding… Extreme summer weather entails a lifestyle change that is very difficult for me. I adore getting up very early in the morning, BUT […]

Tess CGC

Last night Tess earned her CGC. I’ve been way behind on that because of working on Elli’s problems. I finally knuckled down, put Elli’s dog & stranger work on the back burner for a couple of months to get the paper on Tess. We sure weren’t perfect, but I don’t care because Tess is a […]

A Clinic Day

I went out to Nancy Whelan’s place today for the 3rd day of the Larry Painter clinic going on there. I got to say Hi to Larry, show Tess off to him (since he’s her breeder), and chat with folks all day long.

Larry got Tess & I doing our off-balance work. I’m glad […]

Working Saturday

I had a gorgeous day Saturday working Elli, Tess, & Mesa on Dogwood sheep all day long. I’m so glad I was able to go yesterday because today is a sunny 85º F and we’re barely acclimated to 60º yet! [Love that Midwestern weather!] And was lovely to have all day to work.

This is […]

Water Dogs

Now I know what happens to an adolescent Kelpie who has had restricted exercise for 3 days. I will spare you the gory details, but barking figures prominently. I think I still have a husband…hmmm. I also unequivocally found that mental stimulation is no substitute for a good run.

I (not by choice) haven’t taken […]

This is my theory that I have

I have this hypothesis I’ve been experimenting with… I think part of a dog’s brain is in their tongue. So, if they are really smart, they have a bigger tongue (like Elli the Anteater). When they get hot, they start to pant and that part of their brain gets separated from the core. Then they […]

“And you see those? Those are chick-ens. We’re not allowed in there.”
